Staunton Home Remodel

Modern Beauty

We love historic homes here at Mint Construction!  This 1950s house stands in a historic Black community where neighbors gather and have tight-knit relationships.  We wanted to maintain the significance of the architecture and its relationship to other houses on the street while modernizing the inside.

Our first realization was that the kitchen was in the wrong place.  We moved the appliances from what is now the foyer and built a new kitchen out of a living area.  We added rooms and rearranged the walls to meet our needs.  The original flooring was badly rotted and needed to be restored.  We installed new windows and an HVAC system.  We retained the two front doors -- one for owners, one for guests -- but closed one off to maximize interior space.

The result is a stunning combination of classic style and new amenities, a home that proudly shows off its roots but has evolved into a modern beauty.
