Making an Entrance: Turning Two Cramped Spaces into One Stylish Mudroom
An Unwelcome Entryway
Our most recent renovation project aimed to bring order, functionality, and style to a busy family's home. When we first arrived, the problems were obvious. An uninviting entryway made for an unwelcoming entrance into the home. The lackluster laundry space that sat adjacent to the entry wasn’t providing enough storage or functionality, and the litter box was a total eyesore that made a cramped space feel even smaller. The solution was clear: merge the spaces seamlessly, address storage limitations, and create a functional mudroom that reflected the family's unique style.
Creating Spacious Harmony
We started by removing the dividing wall between the entryway and laundry, creating a space ready for a transformation. Out went the dated 12x12 builder-grade tiles and in came the durable slate-look porcelain. The laundry room’s cabinets were cleared out, paving the way for a thoughtfully designed layout, catering to the family’s unique storage needs. The new design features cabinets that now house papers and school essentials, a dedicated home for laundry supplies, and a coat area that has ample room for shoes and outerwear. We didn’t forget the family feline; we added a discreet room off the entryway that became the perfect hideaway for the litter box.
Clean and Cohesive Design
Muted pink/taupe cabinets set the tone for a modern aesthetic, complemented by a sleek door style and 3D diamond-patterned tiles that added depth and character. Brass hardware and an acrylic-and-brass hanging bar for laundry not only catered to practical needs but also aligned seamlessly with the homeowners' distinct style. The resulting mudroom effortlessly marries functionality with sophistication, creating a cohesive and stylish extension of the family home. The new entryway feels warm, inviting, spacious, and organized.
