Finding Hidden Gems in a Historic Bathroom Renovation

Stumbling Upon a Piece of History

Nestled within the walls of a charming 1930s Colonial Revival home, a hidden gem was waiting to be uncovered. Our recent bathroom renovation journey not only transformed an outdated and flipped space but also unveiled a piece of history, celebrating the unique architectural heritage of the house. As we began this renovation project, the first challenge we faced was the bathroom's unconventional layout. The vanity was oddly placed where the shower should have been, and to make matters more intriguing, the previous shower was built over a window. With careful planning and skilled hands, we removed the misplaced fixtures and the shower, revealing the original window that had been concealed for years.

Unearthing the Past: Demolition Discoveries

During the demolition phase, we stumbled upon a remarkable find – a stunning brick archway hidden behind the walls. It was a testament to the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Intriguingly, the original owner of the house was a brickyard owner, explaining the presence of brick interior walls throughout the entire home. Embracing the opportunity to preserve this historical feature, we decided to keep the exposed brick, adding a touch of character and authenticity to the renovated space.

Designing With a Blend of Tradition and Modernity

With the brick archway as our inspiration, we carefully curated a design that paid homage to the home's heritage while incorporating modern elements for functionality and style. To complement the exposed brick, we opted for classic marble tiles on the floor. The timeless appeal of marble not only reflected the age of the house but also added a sense of luxury to the space. In keeping with the home's vintage charm, we selected traditional fixtures that harmonized seamlessly with the Colonial Revival aesthetic. Elegant faucets and a pedestal sink were chosen to evoke a sense of nostalgia while ensuring modern efficiency.

Preserving the Legacy Through a Bathroom Transformation

The result of our meticulous planning was a bathroom that seamlessly blended the old with the new. The exposed brick archway became a focal point, inviting a sense of history and warmth into the room. The marble floor exudes elegance, and the traditional fixtures added a touch of sophistication. This renovation not only transformed an outdated bathroom but preserved a piece of the past, honoring the legacy of the original brickyard owner. As the final tile was laid and the fixtures were installed, our 1930s Colonial Revival bathroom stood as a testament to the beauty of preserving history while embracing the present.
