Timeless Bathroom Remodel Reveal

Balance of Modern & Timeless Design

The key to the bathroom renovation in this 1950s home was balance. The homeowner’s goal was to find the balance between modern and timeless as well as function and beauty in their space. Their original bathroom was a tight space with a slightly clumsy closet door that sometimes blocked the entrance of the bathroom. The walls were covered in pale yellow tiles and it was described as the one room in the home that was unlike all the others.

Changing the Layout to Create More Space

To create a more cohesive space that matched the homeowner’s style, we had to reimagine the layout of the entire room. We knocked out the closet and swapped the placement of the shower, vanity, and toilet to create a more open and functional space. We added board and batten to the walls, added plumbing fixtures with exposed piping to the shower, and used hexagonal marble tiles on the floor, which made the bathroom more period specific to the 1950s. We also used the natural brass hooks from the original closet as accent pieces in the finished bathroom.

Fully Updated 1950s Bathroom

We were thrilled to be able to incorporate the raw materials, natural brass, and neutral palette that the homeowner was dreaming of for this space. The bathroom strikes a perfect balance between clean, airy openness with cozy, timeless character. And this room finally feels like it fits perfectly in the client’s home.
