This Harrisonburg custom home is one project that is personally close to our hearts. We built this beautiful home for our own family. With four kids, we needed the added space and convenience that a larger house would provide. This 3,400 square foot house certainly fits the bill. It has four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a powder room, and plenty of open concept space to stretch out.
Walking up to the house, you are welcomed by the covered front porch featuring Timbertech decking and Fortress iron railings. The porch serves as a great place to read a book, interact with neighbors, watch the kids play, or just relax.
As you enter the house, you will notice that the full lite frosted glass door with side lite provides natural light into the spacious foyer while still allowing for privacy. Next, you will see that hardwoods and recessed lighting are throughout this first level. To the left is a full-size office with plenty of natural light furnished by oversized windows. Also, off the foyer, you will notice the powder room with a space saving pedestal sink with brass Jacuzzi Duncan hardware.
Straight ahead from the foyer you will enter the open concept living room, dining room, and kitchen. Engineered floor joists allow for this expanded open space without the need for supporting walls. The dining room showcases a stunning West Elm chandelier. The chandelier has tiers of luminous natural capiz shells that were hand cut and strung by Filipino artisans.
Looking toward the kitchen, you will see that the Brazilian shaker cabinets with MSI quartz countertops. The undermount sink and Vigo pull out faucet provides both style and practicality. The Bedrosians Cloe subway tile adds a clean, classic look. We built the large island to provide extra food preparation space and bar seating for four.
Heading up the stairs to the second level of this Harrisonburg custom home you will walk on the soft, sound reducing carpet through the four bedrooms. The hall bathroom, designed with our four kids in mind, has a tub/shower combination with 3×6 white subway tile surround with an encaustic tile accent. The six drawer double vanity allows for plenty of personal storage space for each child. The two hexagon mirrors not only provide for the practicality of reflecting little faces, but also give the room a larger feel. Brushed brass Jacuzzi Duncan hardware for both the sinks and the shower gives a connected look to the entire room.
As you enter the master bathroom, your eye will be drawn immediately to the Tem Paper Goodbye Moon wallpaper. We planned that as an exciting mid-century accent to this modern bathroom. The double vanity features both deep drawers and shelves for plenty of storage. Check out the extra long, ceiling height mirrors that create a perfect décor element while helping to brighten the room. The black Jacuzzi Duncan sink hardware gives an impressive contrast to the white countertop.
The master shower features Bedrosians Cloe subway tile with a three-tiered niche and a frameless shower door. The black Delta shower hardware provides contrast and unifies the complexion of the room. For relaxation and practicality, the portable teak bench is a great alternative if you do not want a permanent one.
Basement and Garage
Heading back downstairs to the carpeted basement level, we created a large recreational room. This works as a separate space for our active kids. This room is great for watching television, playing games, or just roughhousing. Looking to the future, we have included bathroom rough-ins for further expansion of this level. Just off from the basement is the full-sized garage with a temperature controlled room for extra storage of sensitive items (photo albums, decorations, etc.).
